Common things we find
Failed oxygen sensors, catalytic converters below efficiency, EVAP leaks (often a gas cap or a cracked hose), ignition coils and plugs causing misfires, vacuum leaks, and wiring damaged by rodents. Some are cheap. Some aren’t. Either way you’ll know exactly what it is and what it costs before you decide.
Diagnostics and your smog check
If your light is on and your registration is due, tell us up front. We’ll run the diagnostic first, quote the repair, and only run the smog once the car can pass — so you’re not paying for a guaranteed failure.

Why not just clear the code?
It comes back — and if you're due for a smog, a recently cleared code means the monitors aren't ready and the car can't be tested.
Is the diagnostic fee credited?
Yes on standard vehicles ($175). European ($200) and diesel ($250) diagnostics take longer and are not credited.
Can I smog my car with the check engine light on?
No — it fails automatically under California law. Diagnose and repair first, then smog. We can do both in one visit.
How long does a diagnostic take?
Usually same day. Intermittent problems can take longer; we'll tell you if we need to keep it.
