Before you come in
Make sure the check engine light is off (it's an automatic fail by state law), drive the car for 15–20 minutes so it's warm, and confirm any aftermarket exhaust or intake carries a CARB sticker. No paperwork needed for a standard smog — bring the DMV notice only if it says STAR.
